CHILD CONCERN is committed to fostering inclusive and scientific development for persons with disabilities (PwDs) through systematic research and innovation. The institute strongly believes that impactful social change stems from evidence-based practices, field research, and community-driven approaches. Thus, Research & Development forms a core pillar of its mission.

Aims & Objectives of R&D at CHILD CONCERN
• To develop evidence-based solutions for education, rehabilitation, and inclusion of PwDs
• To build cost-effective, community-based models for early detection and intervention
• To create awareness tools and training materials for families, teachers, and caregivers
• To explore inclusive employment and vocational training strategies
• To utilize technology for enhancing special education
• To publish accessible knowledge for public and professional use

Research Areas and Projects as per Institutional Objectives

1. Early Identification & Intervention

Aim: Promote early detection and support for children with developmental delays and disabilities.

Completed Projects:
• Development of training material for rural workers for detection and management of disabilities in children
• Early identification and detection of mental retardation
• Model of preschool services for children with disabilities in rural areas

Ongoing Projects:
• Preschool intervention services for developmentally delayed children
• Development of awareness and training materials on early detection and family support

2. Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR)

Aim: Strengthen community participation and localized service delivery.

Completed Projects:
• Creation of awareness tools (posters, slogans, audiovisual content) for parents of mentally challenged children
• Development of outreach models for early services in rural settings

Ongoing Projects:
• Community-Based Rehabilitation for persons with disabilities
• Community participation and empowerment program for inclusive education and support services

3. Inclusive Education & Capacity Building

Aim: Develop resources, models, and teacher support systems for inclusive and special education.

Completed Projects:
• Development of educational materials for rural and preschool educators
• Behavioral management approaches and teaching strategies for children with mental retardation

Ongoing Projects:
• Development of computer-assisted instructional materials for children with IDD
• Integration of inclusive classroom models and teacher training support

4. Vocational Training & Employment

Aim: Identify employment opportunities and vocational skills for adults with disabilities.

Completed Projects:
• Vocational placement of mentally challenged persons in agriculture and farming sectors

Ongoing Projects:
• Multicentre collaborative program on vocational training and employment of persons with intellectual disabilities
• Development of skill-based training modules for sustainable livelihoods

5. Advocacy, Awareness & Knowledge Dissemination

Aim: Build social awareness, reduce stigma, and distribute practical information.

Completed Projects:
• Creation of multi-media resources for parent and community sensitization
• Publishing research findings, manuals, and guides for public use

Ongoing Projects:
• Development of multi-language training and awareness materials across four major disability areas:

Institutional Impact
• All research projects contribute directly to CHILD CONCERN’s field services, training programs, and inclusive outreach models.
• Materials developed have been widely used by RCI-recognized institutions, community-based organizations, special educators, and families of children  with disabilities.
• Publications have enhanced both professional practice and parental understanding of disability management.
• Research findings have been integrated into policy dialogues, training modules, and curricula for special education and rehabilitation across India.
