Founder’s Message
Dr. Shivajee Kumar
Founder & Director, Child Concern

“Every child deserves a childhood filled with dignity, opportunity, and inclusion.”

Child Concern was born out of a deep conviction — that children with disabilities are not to be pitied or sidelined, but recognized, respected, and empowered. Over the past two decades, my journey as a psychologist, special educator, and disability rights advocate has shown me that the real barrier is not disability itself, but a society that fails to understand and embrace diversity.

When I founded Child Concern, my vision was clear: to create a compassionate ecosystem where children with disabilities and their families could access the support, education, and advocacy they deserve. From our earliest interventions in Bihar’s marginalized communities to our current range of inclusive education programs, therapy services, and advocacy initiatives, our goal has always been to bridge the gap between need and access.

We are not just a service provider — we are a movement. A movement to challenge stigma, promote inclusive policies, and build capacity at the grassroots. We work hand-in-hand with educators, parents, therapists, and policymakers to ensure that no child is left behind.

Child Concern is powered by the belief that every small act of care — a therapy session, a home visit, an assistive device, a smile of encouragement — can spark a ripple of change. It is this belief that fuels our work every day.

I invite you to be a part of this journey — as a friend, partner, donor, or volunteer. Together, let us create a world where every child — regardless of ability — can learn, grow, and thrive.

Warm regards,
